Creating a GUIDEcx Desktop Application Via Chrome Shortcut

  1. Go to your chrome menu (three dots in upper right)

  2. More Tools > Create a Shortcut

  3. Name it GUIDEcx

  4. Check the “Open as window” checkbox

Note:
There is a limitation with Chrome Apps that will cause your GUIDEcx app to show an error each time you launch the GUIDEcx app. But not to worry! If you get this error, you can click the “homepage” hyperlink and you will be taken to GUIDEcx, and it will work great!

The reason this error occurs is because when you create the chrome app it automatically adds "/index.html" to the end of the GUIDEcx URL, which is not a valid webpage.

Bypassing the Error

If you'd like to not have to run into that error each time you launch your new GUIDEcx app, you can install a Chrome Extension that will make it so that you will be automatically redirected to the GUIDEcx home page when it attempts to go to the invalid page.

  1. Download the Chrome Extension: Redirector

  2. Create a new redirect (see details below)

  3. Hit Save

  4. Relaunch GUIDEcx

What to enter for the redirect:

Description: Name it whatever you’d like
Example URL: https://app.guidecx.com/index.html
Include pattern: https://app.guidecx.com/index.html
Redirect to: https://app.guidecx.com

Best Practices:

  • Keep the application on your desktop or in your doc for easy access

  • Set it up to open upon computer startup

  • Download the chrome extension

FAQs

  • Will I see notification badges on my GUIDEcx app?

    • No. But when you click into the application you will be able to see your @ mentions and notification badges in the Navigation bar.

  • If I am concerned about the security or behavior of the chrome extension - who do I reach out to?

    • Those questions would need to go to your IT, or directly to the creators of the chrome extension. It is not an extension that is created or managed by GUIDEcx.

  • Are there limitations to the GUIDEcx app shortcut vs running GUIDEcx without opening in its own window?

    • None that we are aware off, however, this has not been a main way that this app is used at this point so please don't hesitate to reach out to support about anything that you may run into!

  • Is this available in other browsers?

    • If they have the ability to create a shortcut, you should be able to do something similar.
